Mikulov Castle
This historical landmark of the town is hard to miss as the castle was built on a hill above the town. This monument dates back to the 13th century. Its current Baroque appearance was only given to it by a reconstruction that was carried out sometime in the mid-17th century. As Mikulov Castle stands on a hill, it offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area.
The castle can also be admired from the inside. The interior features a rich castle library, a wine exhibition, and the largest wine barrel in Europe. If visitors come in summer, they can also participate in various cultural events that are common during this season.
Holy Hill
Holy Hill is not directly in the town, but it is still worth the visit. It is not a big hike, but rather a pleasant walk lined with various Baroque chapels. On the top of Holy Hill stands the Chapel of St. Sebastian.
However, a more significant attraction for most tourists is the opportunity to enjoy views of the town and the Pálava region. As the path up the hill is easy, it is also suitable for smaller children.
Dietrichstein Tomb
This tomb is one of the most significant monuments in Mikulov. Many members of the Dietrichstein family, who had a substantial influence on the town's development in the past, are buried here. The tomb was built in the 19th century and is interesting not only for its historical value but also for its architectural design.
The mausoleum is open to the public from April to October, but it is also possible to arrange a private tour outside of this time period.
Jewish Quarter
Mikulov has its own Jewish quarter. The Jewish community lived in the town for many centuries and has left behind a great legacy. The Jewish quarter is worth a visit, especially the local cemetery. Here you will find preserved tombstones dating back to the 16th century and a synagogue, which is also a museum of Jewish culture.
Church of St. Wenceslas
This church is another place on the list that offers a magnificent view of the city and its wide surroundings. The church is easy to identify from a distance due to its high bell tower, so there’s no need to search for it for long.
Visitors have free access to the church itself, but those who want to enjoy the view of the town from the bell tower must pay a symbolic entrance fee. Smaller children in particular may have difficulty climbing them.
Although Mikulov is a relatively small town, it has a lot to offer in terms of tourism. The biggest attractions for most visitors are mainly historical monuments, but the surrounding beautiful nature is also captivating.
