Narcos
In its first two seasons, Narcos tells the story of drug lord Pablo Escobar. The series depicts both his rise and subsequent fall. Narcos feels very realistic, which is why it is not suitable for children and those with sensitive dispositions.
Just like the real Pablo Escobar, the series does not hold back. Violence is present around every corner and is very explicit.
However, this is not the main reason to invest your time in Narcos. The series captivates viewers with outstanding performances, a well-constructed script, and generous production values.
Narcos does not just focus on Escobar and his Medellín cartel. In later seasons, it also delves into members of the rival Cali cartel and even Mexican cartels. And it remains a damn great ride throughout.
Dark
Dark is proof that Germans can make great series when given the right conditions.
The story takes place in the fictional German town of Winden, where small children start to disappear. While it begins as a slightly mysterious detective story, it turns out to be hardcore sci-fi, mainly revolving around time travel.
Even though the plot is quite convoluted and sometimes ceases to make sense, it is still very engaging and can glue you to the screen until it ends.
To elaborate further on the story would be a crime, as the gradual revelation is the best part of the series.
BoJack Horseman
BoJack Horseman is probably the only series in the world where the main role is played by a talking horse. And it's not just any horse. This one is a former TV star. And no one finds it odd!
In this animated series, anthropomorphic animals appear alongside humans. And it's not due to any scientific experiment, alien visit, or anything like that. These human-like animals are simply an integral part of this world, period.
While this might seem like the main attraction of the series, it is not. BoJack Horseman also stands out with its complex characters, intelligent dark humor, and the creators' courage to address deep themes like depression and alcoholism.
So, anyone expecting another South Park or The Simpsons might be disappointed.
